One saying and practice that yogis use after completing a meditation is Namaste. Today is the day that I am going to say namaste to the College Wellness and Health Guide. By creating this website, it has allowed me to prioritize my own mental and psychical health with the resources I have rediscovered and advertised to you all. I hope that you have found some sort of comfort these past few months by coming to this website and practicing or using the resources provided by your schools. My two most important takeaways from creating this website is catering to the right audience and working on multiple different platforms on the same topic. Because all of you readers came across this website somehow, by needing help prioritizing your health and wellness, it was easy to stick to that topic. The reason why I chose to specifically cater towards the college audience, is because I am a college student who too struggles with prioritizing her health and wellness. I’ve said it before, but college is extremely difficult, and prioritizing your health is not always the top of your daily task list. I personally have found it easier for me to prioritizing my health by using what I have shared within this website. By working on many different platforms I believe that it allowed me to broaden my audience by gathering people from youtube, soundcloud, and wordpress. Not only did it allow my website to populate more of an audience, but it also allowed me to broaden my skills. I had never created a screencast, which will be linked below showcasing the variety of resources college gives its student and I had never created a podcast, also embedded below. You can also resort to the screencast embedded below for any motivation on mental and physical health resource guidance. I thought I would struggle with finding enough to say but it actually came very easy to me because of my passion towards health and wellness. Sadly I will not be continuing by adding more to this website but you can always come back to this page without hesitation.

Memes and Where to Find Them

- Within the first meme listed I believe that it relates to my topic because is shows how hard it is to maintain everything you are expected to as a college student. The target audience is clearly directed toward college students, as is my website.
- Within the second meme I chose, I believe that it relates to my topics focus on keeping up your mental and psychical health. This memes audience relates more to the psychical and mental health side of my topic, but still connects to health and wellness.
- The third meme listed, I believe that it relates to the fact that many college students drown in the course load of school and aren’t able to prioritize their health. The audience is similar to the first images, being that it is targeted to all college students, but it could be directed to any level of student.
- In The Language of Internet Memes, the author states, “The ideal of a meme is the concept or idea conveyed. The ideal dictates the behavior, which in turn creates the manifestation. If the manifestation is a funny image of a cat and the behavior is using software to make it, then the ideal is something like “cats are funny.”” (Davison pg 123). I believe the ‘ideals’ of my chosen memes are the fact that they were made to be relatable.
- In The Language of Internet Memes, the Davison states, “The behavior of a meme is the action taken by an individual in service of the meme. The behavior of the meme creates the manifestation. For instance, if the behavior is photographing a cat and manipulating that photograph with software, the manifestation this creates is the ordered progression of pixels subsequently uploaded to the Internet.” (Davison pg 123). I believe that the behaviors of my identified memes are the captions that add to the pictures. The pictures would not be funny if they had not been turned into a meme by adding conversation to them.
- Memes spread by people posting and reshaping them on the many forms of social media there are. They are commonly shared from this website onto social media platforms like twitter and Reddit. These memes originate at The Know Your Meme Database which is located here: http://knowyourmeme.com/
- In The Language of Internet Memes, Davison states, “The manifestation of a meme is its observable, external phenomena. It is the set of objects created by the meme, the records of its existence. It indicates any arrangement of physical particles in time and space that are the direct result of the reality of the meme.” (Davison pg 123) The manifestations of my memes are what make it a meme and if they were not on the pictures they, again, would not be considered memes. I believe that these memes’ manifestations are different compared to other memes I have seen because they are extremely transparent and some means message sometimes can get lost without enough information on the joke.
- The manifestations that I have chosen to appeal to my target audience are transparency and tutorials. If I wasn’t extremely detailed within my video or podcast, I believe that it would be hard for students to understand where many resources are placed in Universities. This appeals to my target audience because students do not have time to dig to find something they need, they want something that is easy and accessible, which I believe my website is.

Rutger University Resources for Health and Wellness
Hello readers!
Welcome back to the College Wellness and Health Guide! This week, I created a screencast on the different resources that Rutgers University provides for it’s students on the topic of health and wellness.
Rutgers University is known for how many different clubs, organizations, and courses you can be involved in as a student. What many outsiders don’t know is that Rutgers also offers a broad service of health and wellness resources. In the youtube video linked bellow, you will be shown the resources that I or my peers use to keep my health up as a busy college student. I hope that this screencast allows college students to pick up on healthy lifestyle habits.
My intention for posting a screencast on the resources that Rutgers provides it’s students, is the influence Rutgers students as well as other college students to use the resources provided. In the article DIY videos on YouTube, Wolf explains that there is an “ease of retrieving information digitally” (pg. 6). I believe that with my screencast, it allows you as a reader to gather information about living a healthy lifestyle with ease digitally. By watching my screencast, you can learn different resources you can use to keep up with your health and wellness as a college student on your own time.

Header & Image Editing
Header and image editing for blogs can set the success of a website. Image editing for me was more difficult than I had thought it would have been. I initially had planned to layer the two photos I had found to make an image more specific to my website; however, the layer application did not work for me. I found my sources through Flickr and Google Images. I knew I was allowed to reuse them because of their commons stating “copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format for any purpose, even commercially.
In “6 Interior Design Tips to Make Your Blog User-friendly”, the author relate the header to being the the “front door” of a house. Welcoming “prime real estate and it should reflect your brand” (Dunn). This shows your audience a tidbit of what will be within your website. It’s a picture that the readers will associate your website with, so it should be something that represents what your blog posts are about. This relates to meeting the information needs of my target audience because it will hook and real the readers in while showing them what my blog posts are about.
From the article, Articles from “‘Inside Photoshop’ Computational Culture”, the author states, “It redefines both how images are created and what an “image” actually means.” (Manovich) when defining how layers work. I tried to use layers when creating my header to make my topic come together cohesively. Unfortunately due to a technical difficultly I was unable to layer the two images I had chosen. I decided to keep my image simple by just using one of the images.
I personally had little similarities to what Davison describes in his article, “Because of the Pixels: On the History, Form, and Influence of MS Paint.”. He explains how MS Paint was an huge market for content creators at that time and how it had many issues. Using the editing website to make my header, I had no issues with the content creating part because the editing tools were very straight forward. I had technological issues because my laptop was not able to save the file. Technology has changed so much sense then and has definitely worked out some kinks, but it is changing disruptively. I thought something interesting that the author stated in “Because of the Pixels: On the History, Form, and Influence of MS Paint.” was “These technical limitations had a specific impact on the visual character of images produced with the program for the next decade and beyond.” (Davision). This statement stuck out to because there were so many limitations during the time of MS Paint that even they have been able to expand on and make easier to use for MS Paint creators. Since the start MS Paint, there have been modifications of different paint brush size, paint colors, and many other tools allowing the application to be more realistic.

Welcome to The College Wellness Guide!
2019. “New Year, New Me”. I’m sure we have all heard this inspiring motto before. This website will be following my journey to commit to a healthy and positive lifestyle while being a student at Rutgers University. As college students, it is extremely hard to stay healthy during the school year. My name is Blythe Taylor and I am currently a junior at Rutgers University. During my third year as a student here, I had a falling out with a friend group and my mental health. Because this happened I could have let it get me down and depress me, however I decided to chose to prioritize my mental health. At Rutgers University they provide many resources, but as a full time student, we seem to look over the resource provided. In this blog I will be highlighting all the resources that Rutgers University provides to live a healthy life as a student, as well as practices you can do on your own. I will go into depth on how your mental health can influence your physical health and vice-versa. Mental health is a huge topic for college students in today’s day and age. We as students, put so much pressure on ourselves for final exams, GPA, and still maintaining a social life. I have struggled with all of these things myself. As a student who has a major, two minors, is a dedicated member in her sorority, and also commits time to do philanthropic work on the weekend I have found that it is, indeed, hard to commit to living a healthy lifestyle. In this blog I will write individual posts on activities, recipes, applications, and guidelines that a college student should know and follow to live a healthy positive life. After my three years of being at Rutgers, I still have not mastered every part to living a healthy lifestyle, but I have managed to create a outline for my life. I hope you will join me as I continue this journey throughout one of my last semesters at Rutgers University.
